Isaac was a very special boy, and his mother and father loved him very much. But they loved God too. One day, when Isaac was a young man, God told Abraham to take Isaac up a mountain and sacrifice him to God.
Abraham was sad, but he trusted that – even though he was being asked to do something terrible – God would make everything right.
As he was getting ready to sacrifice Isaac, God sent an angel to stop Abraham and save Isaac’s life. “Don’t sacrifice Isaac,” said the angel, “sacrifice the sheep that is caught in that bush instead.” Abraham was happy to hear the angel’s voice, and he did what the angel told him.
