With Ash Wednesday now only a few days away, we’re getting ready for Lent. In the rhythm of the liturgical year, the Easter Tridium is one of the two focal points – and arguably the most important. Lent is our preparation time, a time for focusing on the eternal. We train our wills through prayer, abstinence and almsgiving. We declutter our lives to make room for these Lenten obligations.
Here’s a joke for Lent: There was a Catholic man who married a girl from another denomination. On the evening of their first Ash Wednesday together, she cuddled up to him suggestively. ‘No, no,’ he said. ‘I can’t. It’s Lent.’ She drew back in horror. ‘Who to, and for how long?’
And here’s a link to a great post from Aggie Catholics telling you everything you ever needed to know about Lent but were afraid to ask.
